Whether it be a hike across the National Trust's Marsden Moor Estate, a tour of Ashley Jackson's favourite painting locations or following the Blue Plaque trail in Holmfirth town centre, the beautiful Pennine hills are waiting to be explored. For the more adventurous the Peak District National Park, Pennine Way and Peak Boundary walk are on our doorstep. We can offer local knowledge to help you to plan your own journeys and Holmfirth library have tourist information.
If you're game for a challenge why not become the king of the mountain and cycle the 2014 Tour de France Grande Depart route to the summit of Holme Moss. For less strenuous cycling the Transpennine trail offers miles of safe off road cycling, perfect for families. If you do bring your bike we can store it in a locked shed for you or you can hire a bike locally. For something a little different try a horse and carriage ride or star gazing at the Huddersfield observatory.

Food and drink
There is an abundance of good local food in the area. Our farm produce can be purchased from our farm shop and Holmfirth has a busy Country market every Saturday morning. For a bite to eat visit Nowhere, a fabulous modern restaurant and wine bar in Holmfirth town centre, Lou & Joes, a popular burger bar or Dearnley tea rooms in Shelley who make wonderful ice cream. Local produce is showcased at the town's Food and Drink festival and the Nook, a cosey pub in the centre of Holmfirth, host beer festivals twice a year.
Sightseeing
There are plenty of quirky tourist attractions in Holmfirth and the surrounding area. Holmfirth has a history of film making, James Bamforth began making silent films here in the 1890's, before turning his attention to producing saucy seaside postcards, copies of which can still be bought today. "The Last of the Summer Wine". was filmed here and became the longest running comedy programme in Britain. The Summer Wine exhibition, located in Compo's old house, is a treasure trove of memorabilia. The towns rich film history is celebrated at the film festival which runs in May and the town's picturedrome presents many films as well as hosting concerts and comedy nights. The folk festival, also in May, is a busy weekend with music and street dancing. Holmfirth is home to local artist Ashley Jackson who has a gallery in the town and the town holds an arts festival in June and an art week in July. Travel 10 miles outside Holmfirth to Standedge Tunnel where you can travel by canal boat into the longest, highest and deepest tunnel in the UK.
